The Night I Stopped Talking
On Monday as I washed dishes at Pizza Factory I talked with a co-worker about the family reunion he was supposed to go to with his girlfriend. He wasn't looking forward to it. I asked if I could share something from the Bible that might help him. He said yes (begrudgingly). I asked if he loved his girlfriend. Again, he said yes (and meant that one!) So I told him how a guy named Paul wrote a paragraph or two about love in the Bible and how that definition of love really stuck with me and helps me be more loving. I encouraged him to remember how he loved his girlfriend and to put two phrases into his mind whenever the folks at the family reunion were starting to annoy him: "love is patient, love is kind".

And then I shut up! All evening I kept wanting to follow up that conversation with MORE! But God said no.
Here's the promise that was ringing in my head: "My word that comes from My mouth will not return to Me empty, but it will accomplish what I please and will prosper in what I send it to do.” Isaiah 55:11 I shared a snippet of God's Word with him. God's words are promised to always have an effect. My words? Not so much.
